Ontario is full of beautiful places to live, but if you crave lakeside charm and small-town vibes, this quaint village might just be your dream destination. Offering a cozy cottage atmosphere and storybook streets, it's a little slice of paradise and has been named one of Canada's best small towns to live in.

When we asked readers on Narcity Canada's Facebook page to share their pick for Canada's best small town to live in, the post sparked hundreds of responses — and this quaint Ontario spot made the list.

The charming village of Bobcaygeon is a hidden gem tucked between two beautiful lakes, Sturgeon and Pigeon, in the Kawarthas area.

The town is located just 90 minutes from the GTA and features a quieter, laid-back atmosphere than the bustling streets of the city.

Offering cozy, cottage-country vibes, Bobcaygeon is home to a quaint downtown and a sandy beach with sparkling waters.

It's been dubbed "The Hub of the Kawarthas," and is home to Lock 32, the first and most visited lock on the Trent-Severn Waterway. Here you can see boats floating along the peaceful waters and soak up some beautiful views.

It's also the birthplace of the "world-renowned" Kawartha Dairy ice cream, so if you have a sweet tooth, this town is the place to be.

There are many attractions to enjoy in the area. One of the most notable is the Kawartha Settler's Village, an open-air museum featuring over 20 historic buildings from log cabins to shops.

There's also the Globe Theatre at Lakeview Arts Barn, where you can enjoy professional theatre productions in a barn-like setting.

The Kawartha Lakes region is full of attractions and beautiful places to explore. You can enjoy over 250 lakes with 15 picturesque beaches, as well as cute villages and communities like Lindsay and Fenlon Falls.

The downtown boasts picturesque streets, charming shops and colourful ice cream parlours — perfect for a post-beach treat. The stores offer everything from clothing to baked goods, so you don't have to travel to a city to stock up on the essentials.

According to Samantha Crowley Real Estate, Bobcaygeon "provides a quintessential small-town experience" and is "revered for its scenic beauty and captivating downtown core,"

"Residents can leisurely stroll through the quaint downtown area, peruse artisanal goods, and savour local cuisine at intimate cafes and restaurants," the real estate website says.

So, how do house prices in Bobcaygeon compare to Toronto? According to Zolo, the average home price in Bobcaygeon is $722,521 in August 2025, while Toronto's is $1,050,143.

If lakeside charm and cozy, cottage-country vibes sound like your idea of the perfect lifestyle, you might consider relocating to this quaint small town.
