You Haven't Seen Canmore Until You've Hiked Up To This Mountaintop Lookout (PHOTOS)
Calling all adventure seekers. If you're a fan of a good hike and a great view, we've got just the thing. Lady MacDonald Teahouse Trail in Canmore needs to be on your hiking to-do list. You truly haven’t been to Alberta unless you have taken in the mountaintop views from this hike.
There are some definite must-do things around Alberta.
Next to the Icefields Parkway, Lady MacDonald Teahouse Trial is something that needs to be done the next time you find yourself in the area.
The 8.7-kilometre trail is located in Canmore so you already know the views are going to be spectacular.
The trail itself is well defined so you shouldn’t worry about getting lost.
It’s considered to be a hard trail so get ready to experience some difficult parts including steep sections and rocks.
While good quality hiking boots aren’t a must, they will help along the way.
Just be sure to bring water because you will definitely be getting your daily workout in.
Altogether, the hike will take about half the day. There are some great spots to look out while you’re walking so be sure to take your time.
It should take you about four hours to climb all the way up and back down.
While the entire hike will give you views of glorious mountain tops, the main attraction is the now-abandoned tea house.
Travel Alberta claims that the teahouse was meant to be used as a lunch spot and rest area.
The construction was stopped and abandoned after noise pollution concerns for Canmore were brought to attention.
When you get to the tea house you will realize immediately that it's more of a platform than a teahouse. Regardless, the view is out of control. You will be greeted with 360-degree views of the surrounding landscape.
Take a minute and enjoy all the views as they are almost too good to be true.
Much like any epic trail in the province, it can be done at any time but the best time of year to do it is during the summer.
That way you know there will be no risk of snow or ice.
Whether you hit this trail up for an afternoon adventure or try it out on your way through town, it's a must-do Alberta activity.
