Now that passengers are required to get a negative COVID-19 test before entering the country, many of the Government of Canada’s travel advisories have had an update.

The new rules, which come into effect on January 7, have prompted officials to share additional information about where you can get a test if you’re currently abroad.

This includes advice for people in the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom and more.

According to the government, “Information on in-country testing facilities can be found in the Health tab of certain destinations.”

For example, the United States advisory now includes a link to additional information about testing facilities in that country, should passengers coming to Canada need to obtain a negative test result.

The same applies to countries around the world where testing is available, with region-specific information shared on every individual page.

Incoming travellers are also encouraged to contact local health authorities, or the nearest Government of Canada office abroad, to get additional information about the latest travel requirements.

The new rules were announced at the end of December, in an attempt to continue to curb the spread of COVID-19 in Canada.

While officials say that current border control measures are “working” in the fight against the illness, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau continues to reiterate that now is not the time to ease-off restrictions.
