This enchanting island village will have you feeling like you've stepped into a Christmas card. The destination boasts glittering streets, glowing shops and endless holiday magic, and it's a short trip away from Ontario.

Mackinac Island, Michigan, is a dreamy destination nestled on the crystal waters of Lake Huron.

The island is known for its storybook charm and car-free streets and was recently named one of the best islands in the U.S.

During the holiday season, Mackinac Island transforms into a scene from a Christmas card.

According to a press release, "the slower-paced winter season offers a quiet escape for those looking for unique activities all whilst being surrounded by the peaceful ambiance of a winter wonderland."

"Mackinac Island is something to behold in every season, but winter on the island is truly special," Tim Hygh, Executive Director of Mackinac Island Tourism Bureau, said in the release.

"Winter offers an entirely different experience complete with serene beauty, specially curated holiday events, and opportunities to explore the island’s natural wonders. If you’re looking for a quiet respite, Mackinac Island is the spot to visit."

During the festive season, you can enjoy events like the Christmas Tree Lighting, Christmas Bazaar Weekend and the New Year's Eve Great Turtle Drop.

There are also lots of quaint boutiques where you can get some holiday shopping done.

If you're travelling to Mackinac Island from Ontario during the winter, you can drive across the border to St. Ignace and take a ferry from there.

During November, the Shepler's Ferry provides transportation, while the Arnold Transit Company operates from December to April.

If you live in the Sault Ste. Marie area, the ferry is under an hour away. From the Windsor area, it's just over 4 hours to get to St. Ignace.

Alternatively, you can take a short, 7-minute air taxi to the island.

You can find out more about travel and accommodations on Mackinac Island's winter season page.

Enjoy some Christmas magic at this island destination.
