We're still dealing with COVID-19 in Canada but Dr. Theresa Tam believes that we can make it through even though we're "still in the tunnel."

On Twitter, the country's top doctor responded to a past president of the Canadian Medical Association who posted about getting the vaccine.

We are still in the tunnel, but we are in it together. Dr. Theresa Tam

Dr. Tam said that the light we see at the end of the tunnel is because of the consistent and collective effort by Canadians throughout the last year.

She did warn that we're "still in the tunnel" but she has hope for all of us.

"We are in it together and together we have what it takes to see things through," she said.

Recently, Dr. Tam noted the next couple of months will be "difficult" in Canada as we're on the trajectory for a strong resurgence.

She also acknowledged that variants like the ones identified in the U.K. and South Africa are a concern.

As part of a study about COVID-19 antibodies, Statistics Canada is actually mailing at-home blood tests to thousands of Canadians to help understand past infections.
