If you're a personal support worker in Ontario, you could be seeing a significant pay raise, effective immediately.
During his daily media briefing, Doug Ford announced that tens of thousands of the Ontarians who have borne the brunt of this pandemic will receive an increase in their pay that could last until the spring of 2021.
Personal support workers in publicly funded home and community care, long-term care facilities, who work with children, or in community and social care will receive a $3 per hour increase, while workers in public hospitals will receive a $2 increase.
workers will receive a temporary wage increase
The temporary wage increase will be reviewed on a regular basis and could extend until March 31, 2021.
"We know the wages of PSWs do not reflect the critical role they have played throughout this pandemic, in addition to their ongoing care of our loved ones," Ford said.
This announcement comes on the heels of the announcement that Ontario has officially entered the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ontario has reported 2,417 new cases of COVID-19 since Monday, according to provincial data.
