The top baby names in Alberta for 2020 have been revealed and it seems like Albertans can't get enough of one name in particular.

The top 10 names for girls in Alberta were:

  1. Olivia
  2. Emma
  3. Charlotte
  4. Ava
  5. Sophia
  6. Amelia
  7. Isla
  8. Emily
  9. Lily
  10. Abigail

Oliva has actually sat in the top spot for eight years in a row. Meanwhile, the top boys' name, Noah, has held the title for two years now. The top boy's names were:

  1. Noah
  2. Oliver
  3. Liam
  4. Benjamin
  5. William
  6. Jack
  7. Lucas
  8. Theodore
  9. Levi
  10. Owen

According to a government release, there were 49,030 babies born in Alberta in 2020 — 25,160 were boys and 23,870 were girls.

"In a year unlike any other, positivity seemed to be a popular theme for some new parents, with names like Hope, Peace, Faith, Charity, Joy, Happy and Brave appearing on the list of registered names," said the release.

"Some parents also seemed to be inspired by athletes (Kobe, Muhammad-Ali, Beckham), mythology (Artemis, Persephone, Aries, Zeus), music (Dre, Zeppelin, Bowie), video games (Zelda, Link, Eevee), literature (Guinevere, Atticus) and places (Cairo, Nile, Phoenix)."
