There's nothing a little healthy competition can't do, and we know how much Calgary and Edmonton love to compete.

The latest competition between the two Albertan cities has a goal of getting more women to run in next year’s municipal elections and, in turn, have more women making decisions in our cities.

The competition is called the Parity Cup and teams from YYC and YEG are stepping up to the plate.

Our teams will be facing off to see who can encourage, uplifting and inspire more womxn in politics in their respective cities.

Each month, the group will issue a challenge on social media that will “get Edmontonians and Calgarians thinking about the value of diversity in political representation, supporting incredible womxn community leaders, and finding candidates to support in the upcoming election.”

The first challenge is coming up on November 1.

According to CBC News, there are only two women on Edmonton’s city council out of 12 and only three out of 15 in Calgary.

CBC also reported that Edmonton is already in the lead with five women having already declared candidacy for next year.

As of now, only four Calgary women have done the same. So, who do you think is going to win?
