BREAKING: Including smaller gatherings and masks in all workplaces.

New COVID-19 measures are coming to Edmonton, as stated by the Government of Alberta on Thursday, October 8.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw, the province's top doctor, announced three new voluntary COVID-19 measures on Thursday's Edmonton COVID-19 update

The first is that no more than 15 people are allowed in family and private social gatherings. This does not include organized gatherings such as theatre, wedding receptions, places of worship, and more.

These measures are not being taken lightly but are necessary to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The second measure is that masks should be worn in all indoor workplace settings unless the person is working alone or there's a sufficient barrier built to curb the spread.

"Finally, I'm asking everyone in the Edmonton zone to limit their cohorts to no more than three," said Dr. Hinshaw. This includes their household cohort, their school cohort, their sports cohort, or a social cohort.

As of now, 276 new cases have been detected in the Edmonton Health Zone in the last 24 hours.

The positivity rate for the COVID-19 test has reached 4% in the city, added Dr. Hinshaw.

She also said the northeast portion is the most affected region of the city.

Alberta announced 364 new cases of COVID-19 over the last 24 hours. Two new deaths have also been recorded.
