Jasper RCMP, Parks Canada Visitor Safety, and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene at the time.

The young girl from Spruce Grove near Edmonton "had fallen into the water at the 5th Bridge" of the canyon.

"Efforts were underway to rescue the 11-year-old female by individuals at the scene," said the police.

She was later located at the sixth bridge in the canyon. She was removed from the water and given medical aid.

The investigation into her death continues with the assistance of the Chief Medical Examiner's office in Edmonton. Her death has been cited as "accidental" by the police.

This wasn't the only tragic accident that occurred in the national park this month. On Friday, September 25, a couple from Alberta were found dead after falling off a "steep bank" in Jasper National Park.
