Taiwanese chain Roji Monster Ice Cream is known for its monster ice cream: a meringue googly-eyed, not so scary monster fashioned from my fave Asian treat. What sets this place apart from the rest is that milk is used in its base instead of water. This gives the ice a much creamier and smoother finish. Flavours include milk, uji matcha (shown), black sesame and French cocoa. Each order comes with 2 “sides”. There are 20+ to choose from including options such as glutinous rice balls (plain), pretzels, Japanese cheesecake, strawberry jam, nuts and even popcorn. We also ordered a monster waffle which came with milk soft serve, matcha cream and chocolate sauce. The waffle batter is similar to that used in a HK egg waffle but I like how crispy the exterior is. We ordered my son milk soft serve in a cup with corn flakes. To be honest, this was my favourite - for its simplicity. Momofuku fans, this is a very distant, crunchy cousin of the cereal milk soft serve.
