In a social media post on Sunday afternoon, the official Jeopardy! Twitter page confirmed that long-time host Alex Trebek has died.

The Canadian-American host, who was 80 years old, passed away after a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer on Sunday, November 8.

The Twitter account confirmed that he was surrounded by friends and family when he “peacefully” passed away.

Earlier this year, the star spoke openly about his cancer treatment, which he initially said was “paying off.”

However, Trebek also made it clear that he’d stop treatment if his condition worsened.

After hearing the news of his passing, Canadians flooded social media to pay their respects to the much-loved TV personality.

“RIP to a Canadian” was trending on Twitter within minutes, with people like Doug Ford and Jamie Lee Curtis paying homage to the star.

Ryan Reynolds described Trebek as “gracious and funny. In addition to being curious, stalwart, generous, reassuring and of course, Canadian.”
