Now that Ontario lockdown orders have been issued for Toronto and Peel, it has Ottawa's mayor not wanting his city to end up like that.

Jim Watson took to Twitter to talk to residents about the capital about the COVID-19 situation.

"As Toronto and Peel go into lockdown, this is a reminder that we need to continue to follow public health guidelines," he said.

The mayor also noted that following public health guidelines will help make sure that they don't "fall back on the great progress we have made here in Ottawa."

So he's asking people to wear masks, wash their hands and keep up physical distancing.

"We can do this Ottawa," Watson said.

Toronto and Peel are officially in lockdown as of November 23 which puts restrictions on what's open and how people can gather.

Other parts of the province are also facing stricter measures as they move into the protect, restrict or control zones.
