Ontario's Chief Medical Officer of Health is asking anyone who enters the province from other parts of Canada to self-isolate for two weeks if they travel to Ontario while the lockdown is ongoing.

The lockdown starts at 12:01 a.m. on Boxing Day and will last until January 9, 2021, for all parts of Ontario and January 23, 2021, for Southern Ontario only.

14 Days How long people entering Ontario should self-isolate

All travellers who enter Ontario from outside the country must self-isolate for 14 days, although Doug Ford has openly said that he wants to scrap that policy in favour of testing each international traveller for COVID-19.

But in a document released today filled with details about the new provincial lockdown, Ontario spelled out the rules for inter-provincial travellers.

"Individuals and families who arrive or return to Ontario during the Province-wide Shutdown period should self-isolate for 14 days upon arrival," according to the document.

And travel out of the province should only happen for essential reasons, the government says.

Doug Ford directly called out travellers from Quebec in today's press conference announcing the province-wide lockdown.

"When we open up and Quebec closes down," Ford said, justifying his reasoning for locking down all parts of the province, "Nothing against Quebecers, I love the Quebecers — but they'll come over in droves [and] numbers will be driven back up."
