Joe Biden has officially been inaugurated as the 46th president of the United States, and his first act was filled with emotion.

Biden requested a nationwide moment of silence to honor those who have lost their lives due to COVID-19 as the world continues to battle the pandemic.

We will honor them by becoming the people and the nation we know we can and should be. President Joe Biden

The small crowd of about 1,000 guests went completely silent, as Biden bowed his head and said a small prayer for the victims and their loved ones.

Joe Biden spent the rest of his inaugural address calling for unity from the American people. He said there is a lot of work to do in order to rebuild after the COVID-19 pandemic, bring justice for all following outcries for racial justice, save the planet from environmental destruction and bring an end to domestic terrorism.

"To overcome these challenges, to restore the soul and secure the future of America, requires so much more than words. It requires the most elusive of all things in a democracy, unity," said Biden.
