Visitors at Georgia's Jekyll Island should keep their eyes peeled for treasure hidden across the island during the next few months.

From January 1 through February 28, the island is holding its signature Island Treasures event that sends visitors on an island-wide expedition for treasure.

Adventurers can find gorgeous, one-of-a-kind glass "floats" hidden throughout Jekyll Island from the beach to the historic district and everywhere in between.

The hand-crafted floats originate from the 1900s when fishermen used hollow glass balls on their nets as markers.

Sometimes, the floats would break off from their nets and wash ashore and people began collecting the rare glass globes.

Nowadays, visitors of Jekyll Island can go on their very own hunt for the floats in a fun hide-and-seek game.

Clear globes will be hidden around the island for treasure hunters to unearth and redeem for a colorful, hand-crafted glass float.

Find out for yourself if 'X' really does mark the spot for treasure when you go on this exciting inquisition.
