Maezawa and Elon Musk released a statement about the space mission.

Maezawa will be funding the mission and he says the trip will take "three days to get to the moon, loop behind it, and three days to come back."

He's especially interested in bringing artists along with him, but he says that "every single person who is doing something creative could be called artists."

If you want to go, you need to be committed to pushing the envelope in your creative field by going to space and you need to be ready to support other crew members in their "similar aspirations."

"What's really significant about the dearMoon mission is that it will be the first private spaceflight," said Elon Musk. "We expect people will go further than any human has ever gone from planet Earth."
