Instagram is laying down some social media rules to ensure that all teenagers using their platforms are safe and that those under the age of 13 stay out.

The social media platform announced new features to keep their "youngest community members safe."

Facebook, which owns the platform, confirmed to Narcity that they will be implementing new rules around finding out your real age, halting direct messages from adults you don't know, making it hard for "suspicious" people to find you and encouraging young people to have private accounts.

"While many people are honest about their age, we know that young people can lie about their date of birth," the website reads, "To address this challenge, we’re developing new artificial intelligence and machine learning technology to help us keep teens safer."

Instagram will be looking into these changes in the coming weeks and you will start seeing the new features in some countries this month with the hopes of it being available globally.
