Old-world streets, stone buildings, garland-wrapped stores and more await in this enchanting Ontario town. The destination is known for its beauty and charm, and it's even more magical during the Christmas season.

Merrickville is a cozy small town situated along the Rideau Canal, about an hour away from Ottawa.

With European vibes and picturesque neighbourhoods, the village has been dubbed the "Jewel of the Rideau" and was even named "Canada's Most Beautiful Village" in 1998 by Communities in Bloom.

The holiday season brings a whole new kind of magic to the town. The streets sparkle with twinkling lights, stores glow with decor and holiday cheer fills the air.

On December 7, 2024, the village is getting even more festive for the Christmas in Merrickville event.

The holiday celebration features a variety of themed activities that will have you feeling jolly. The day begins with breakfast with Santa, followed by reindeer visits, a cookie walk, artisan market and more.

Other highlights of the event include the Santa Claus Parade, horse-drawn wagon rides, marshmallow roasting and the tree lighting ceremony.

The celebration lasts all day and takes place throughout the charming downtown.

During your visit, you can head to some of the quaint boutiques to get your holiday shopping done. From sea salt caramels at Pickle & Myrhh to cozy candles at Wick Witch Apothecary and treats from the Merrickville Cheese Shop, there's something for everyone.

Whether you're looking for a festive day trip or enchanting weekend getaway, this small Christmas town is a magical place to visit during the holidays.
