Here's a look inside Ontario's new Costco: sushi bar, food court and much more (VIDEO)

After months of anticipation, Newmarket's new Costco warehouse has officially opened its doors — and we got a look inside the massive space.

At 166,000 square feet (roughly 15,500 square metres), the Newmarket warehouse is one of the largest Costco warehouses in Ontario.

The store, located at 107 Harry Walker Parkway S., just off Highway 404 near Davis Drive, replaces the smaller East Gwillimbury warehouse that had served shoppers for over two decades. The original site on Yonge Street, which opened in 2002, won't be disappearing entirely, though. It's set to be converted into a Costco Business Centre later this year, catering to small businesses and bulk buyers.

The new space has been designed to handle higher volumes, with wider aisles, more than 1,300 shopping carts, and about 1,000 parking spots. Inside, shoppers will find expanded departments, including a bakery, a larger fresh produce area, a rotisserie chicken counter, a deli, a meat department, and self-service checkouts.

One of the standout features is a sushi bar, something that only a handful of Costcos in Canada currently offer. The very first opened in Vancouver in 2024, followed by Brantford later that year. Newmarket is now the third Costco in Canada, and the second in Ontario, to include the feature.

In addition to groceries, the warehouse provides several other services. Amenities include a hearing aid centre, optical department, and five tire bays, alongside a large food court. Outside, there are 24 gas pumps, making it easier for members to fuel up while shopping.

The project has also created new job opportunities in the area. Around 70 additional positions have been created, bringing the total number of employees to 520, up from the 450 already employed at the former East Gwillimbury store. Local officials, including Newmarket Mayor John Taylor, attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday to mark the opening.

Narcity got an early look at the new space with content creator @rachandluna, who toured the aisles on opening day. From the sushi bar and bakery to the produce section and food court staples, such as $1.50 hot dogs, the walkthrough highlights what shoppers can expect inside.

This is the 42nd Costco to open in Ontario, underlining the continued demand for the retailer's warehouse model. For some residents, the Newmarket site will cut down travel times compared to driving to East Gwillimbury or other nearby stores.

The Newmarket Costco is open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., and on weekends from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
