The province's top doctor announced on Thursday, October 8 that Alberta COVID-19 cases have reached a new single-day jump record.

Between Wednesday, October 7 and Thursday, October 8 there were 364 news cases of COVID-19 in Alberta. Of those, 276 new cases have been recorded in Edmonton.

That bumps the total number of active cases in the province to 2,097.

At the press conference, Dr. Deena Hinshaw asked Albertans not to plan large gatherings for Thanksgiving weekend.

"Now is not the time to be gathering in large groups," she said.

The government is recommending three new voluntary COVID-19 measures for Edmonton starting on Thursday, October 8.

While Edmonton cases grow, Hinshaw says the rest of the province is "holding steady."
