A second-wave plan has been introduced by the local government to tackle COVID-19 in Edmonton

Due to a recent spike in cases, one that's caused Edmonton to become the city with the most number of active cases in Canada, the city is boosting public awareness and enforcement.

Edmonton was placed on the province’s watch list on August 18.

According to the release, the city has also upped the number of meetings it has with Alberta Health Service officials. They've also developed a five-level "Escalation Plan" that will determine their next steps if cases continue to increase.

The city says they're on the first level of this plan, which means they're focusing on educating the public and monitoring mask-wearing.

If they were to reach the second level, city-owned facilities, services, and programs could be restricted or closed again.
