The stats are in. Details about rats in Ontario have been released, and it turns out 25 places across the province have rodent problems. However, it wasn't just big cities, even some smaller spots made the list.

According to data from Orkin Canada, the Golden Horseshoe is the rat hot-spot of Ontario, with more than half of all rodent issues happening in the region.

In an infographic on the subject, 16 areas were identified to have notable pest control difficulties.

Downtown Toronto claimed the top spot as an epicentre for the rodents.

Mississauga took second place, while Scarborough, a suburb of the 6ix, came in third.

"Cities are ranked by the number of rodent (rat & mice) treatments the company performed from July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2020," says a news release.

London, Ontario came in fourth in the province for having rat infestations, beating out Etobicoke and North York, which came in fifth and sixth, respectively.

Out of the top 10 on the list of 25, GTHA locations dominated, taking up seven of the 10 spots.

However, small cities were not omitted. Woodstock, Cambridge, and Timmins also made the top 25.

North Bay, Sudbury and Burlington were also mentioned.

As fall approaches, pest control company Orkin Canada is releasing tips to prevent unwanted infestations at home

Some include trimming trees and shrubs near your home to eliminate hiding spots that the critters might find.

Cutting off their water supply is another big one, so make sure to deal with any clogged gutters or water sitting at the bottom of your trash pile.

Keeping food sealed in containers also helps to prevent rodents from chewing through to it.

Cleaning up crumbs and spills are other small but effective ways to ensure than you don't attract any unwanted roommates.
