A crowd spent the July 4th weekend protesting in Florida's oldest city to keep a part of history standing.

The Confederate memorial protesters in St. Augustine rallied around the monument with both American and Confederate flags to sway city leaders to not take it down.

The memorial's fate is already sealed as the St. Augustine city council voted 3-to-2 to remove the statue on June 22.

A Facebook group, Defend St. Augustine, has collected 300 signatures to keep the monument standing, while a pending lawsuit aims to reverse the decision.

Other Confederate monuments in North Florida have recently been removed
