Three People Have Been ‘Badly Injured’ In A Polar Bear Attack In Nunavut
The animal has since been found dead.
Three people have been hospitalized in Nunavut's Baffin region, after a suspected polar bear attack on Tuesday.
According to Sanirajak RCMP, police were dispatched to a report of a polar bear attack near some cabins at 2:25 p.m.
While en route to the incident, officers were informed that three individuals had been transported to the health centre.
The police report says that two women were later airlifted to a hospital in Iqaluit and a man was flown to a hospital in Ottawa. Although they are described as "badly injured," all three individuals are expected to survive.
Officials say the polar bear was "found dead by the cabins" and the wildlife officer at the scene "took possession and transported it to their office."
Sanirajak, a community of approximately 850 people, is known to have a considerable population of polar bears, as well as other arctic wildlife like walrus and beluga whales.
