This stunning Ontario spot with dreamy lakeside towns is one of Canada's top fall destinations

It's a road trip from Toronto.

Lead Writer, Travel

Fall is a magical time for a getaway. From quaint towns draped in autumn hues to cities brimming with cafes and harvest charm, there are so many stunning destinations to explore.

Airbnb recently revealed fall travel trends for Canadians this season, highlighting places across the country that are seeing a surge in autumn bookings and cozy getaways.

One Ontario destination was named among the top trending fall travel spots in Canada, and it's brimming with autumn charm.

Kawartha Lakes is a scenic region located 90 minutes from Toronto, and, according to Airbnb, it's one of the top destinations in the country for travellers this fall.

The area is known for its gorgeous lakes and scenic landscapes, making it a beautiful spot to get outdoors and enjoy the crisp autumn weather.

According to Explore Kawartha Lakes, it's "the perfect fall destination" and "is one of the best places to take in fall colours, with brilliant reds, oranges, and yellows splashed across every corner of the region."

You can enjoy the fall foliage by hiking your way through the stunning colours. Kawartha Lakes is home to over 600 kilometres of trails, and the Ganaraska Trail, Kawartha Trans Canada Trail and Victoria Rail Trail Corridor have several access points in different areas of the region.

You'll also want to head to the Trent-Severn Waterway — a route of interconnected lakes, rivers, and canals. The locks remain open until Thanksgiving and offer beautiful views of boats with a backdrop of autumn hues.

Kawartha Lakes boasts a range of attractions to check out, from the Kawartha Settler's Village to pumpkin patches and museums.

It isn't fall without spending some time in a cute small town, and you can find several cozy communities dotted throughout the region. Spots like Bobcaygeon, Fenelon Falls, and Lindsay are home to warm cafes, local shops, and sweet bakeries.

You can even follow the Butter Tart Trail, which leads to all sorts of cozy stops and gooey treats.

Other top domestic travel destinations for Canadians this fall include Banff and Quebec City.

If you're dreaming of an autumn escape, Kawartha Lakes offers endless charm and picturesque views.
