Ontario Is Reinvesting $2.5 Million Seized From Criminals To Fight Human Trafficking

Doug Ford announced on Twitter this afternoon that the Government of Ontario will be reinvesting $2.5 million in cash seized from criminals to combat human trafficking and local crime.

Specifically, it will fund provincial law enforcement agencies and community partners through an initiative called, Civil Remedies Grant Program.

As many as 33 projects will receieve a share of the money, including one that fights human trafficking and provides province-wide support for victims.

Local crime and human trafficking aren't the only important issues being addressed this week.

Yesterday, Ford tweeted that the government will also be providing $241 million to support homeless shelter staff and residents in Indigenous communities.

"Our government is providing municipalities & Indigenous communities with over $241M to help protect and support homeless shelter staff and residents," he wrote.

"We’re creating or renovating over 1,500 housing units, expanding rent support programs & creating longer-term housing solutions."

Additionally, yesterday Justin Trudeau revealed that the federal government gave $500 million to 15 cities across the country, including Quebec City, London, Hamilton, Waterloo, Halifax, Calgary, Peel, Montreal, Winnipeg, Surrey, Edmonton, Vancouver, Ottawa, and Toronto, for the Rapid Housing Initiative.
