Commuters should prepare for a potentially messy start to the week, as stormy weather in southern Ontario threatens to disrupt Monday morning travel across the region.

According to The Weather Network (TWN), a "stalled low-pressure system" hovering near the Great Lakes is expected to bring a "narrow band" of heavy rain through the GTA just in time for the morning rush hour. D

As a result, drivers can anticipate reduced visibility, slick roads, and slower traffic during the early commute.

Unfortunately, TWN says the unsettled conditions aren't just limited to the morning.

By Monday evening, the risk of thunderstorms will ramp up, especially across areas near Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. This will bring the potential for localized downpours and even small hail in some spots.

Temperatures will vary significantly across the region, with cooler conditions near the western shores of Lake Ontario due to brisk easterly winds.

Meanwhile, areas further southwest, like Windsor, could see rainfall totals pushing 50 mm through Wednesday. Toronto is expected to see anywhere from 15 to 30 mm of rainfall.

While Tuesday is expected to bring some improvement, particularly for the GTA and Niagara region, southern Ontario is in for a gloomy and unsettled start to the week.

Make sure you monitor local weather alerts and plan for some extra time on your Monday morning commute.

Safe driving, Ontarians!
