Indoor gatherings have increased the transmission of COVID-19 in Ontario, and one team sports practice was no exception.

Over the course of 18 days in October, a single practice led to seven COVID-19 outbreaks last month, forcing over 170 people into self-isolation.

A chart released by Ottawa Public Health illustrates just how the disease was able to spread.

It all began when one person with COVID-19 attended the practice.

From there, it spread through two sports teams and into schools, daycares and households.

In just over two weeks, 60 Ontarians had tested positive for the disease, and over 170 people became high-risk contacts.

A similar event took place in Ontario in September when a park BBQ attended by 40 people led to over 100 people having to self-isolate.

On Monday, the province reported 948 new infections, 64 of them coming from Ottawa.
