In a tweet, the city's law enforcement agency said "There is a police operation underway on Sussex Drive. Please avoid the area."

It's unclear what the nature of the operation is, but the tweet said they would provide more updates as the situation unfolds.

This street is home to a number of major government residences including 24 Sussex where the PM usually lives and Rideau Cottage where he has been living so far during his two terms.

CTV is reporting that the police investigation is happening close to his current home, by 1 Sussex Dr.

This is also the property for the Governor General.

According to CTV, the RCMP is leading the investigation, but no details have been released yet.
