There’s a scary scene unfolding in O-Town. On Thursday morning, local firefighters responded to reports that the iconic Ottawa Sugar Shack was burning.

On Twitter, Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) shared photos of attempts to contain the flames, which were tearing through the roof of the structure at around 6:30 a.m.

The urban sugar shack, which is located at the Vanier Museopark, is reported to have already partially collapsed.

Scott Stilborn, with the OFS, described their response as “a defensive operation.”

Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson responded to the tweet from OFS, describing the news as “very sad and disturbing.” He added that the city “will be there” to help repair the building.
