The nation's capital is under a tornado warning — Ottawa locals are told to stay inside at the lowest floor and avoid all outside walls and windows.

In a weather alert on Sunday, August 2, Environment Canada alerted many residents in Ontario to severe weather on its way.

A line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing tornadoes is located from 7 kilometres northwest of Pakenham to Garretton, moving northeast at 55 km/h.

Possible tornadoes are occurring at Carleton Place, Richmond, and Merrickville and you can check out the warnings yourself to see if you're in an affected area.

"If you hear a roaring sound or see a funnel cloud, swirling debris near the ground, flying debris, or any threatening weather approaching, take shelter immediately," wrote Environment Canada.
