The French countryside is a dreamy vacation spot, but with lengthy flights and pricey accommodation, it may seem out of reach.

Luckily, you don't have to go far to experience the charm of this destination. This Ontario spot with quaint waterside villages and rolling vineyards will have you feeling like you're wandering through the French countryside—without ever leaving Canada.

Prince Edward County is a picturesque island community located along the shores of Lake Ontario, halfway between Toronto and Ottawa.

According to Destination Ontario, it's "one of Ontario's most treasured holiday spots for its world-class wineries, sandy beaches and boutique accommodations."

While it may not be an exact replica of the South of France, its historic buildings, quaint towns, beaches, wineries, and lavender farms create a charming resemblance.

You can spend your getaway exploring the quaint villages like Picton and Wellington, where you'll find cute shops, markets and sun-filled patios.

It isn't a trip to Prince Edward County without seeing Sandbanks Provincial Park. This summer gem boasts three gorgeous white sand beaches and turquoise waters where you can splash the day away.

For an authentic French experience, you can head to some wineries, like Sandbanks Estate Winery and Closson Chase Vineyards.

Or, head to Prince Edward County Lavedner to get lost in fragrant blooms.

Other beautiful spots to explore include The Miller House and Lake on the Mountain Provincial Park.

Concerning places to stay, Prince Edward County offers a range of historic inns and beachside retreats. Spots like Wander the Resort, The Lakeside Motel, The Royal Picton and Merrill House are idyllic options.

If you're craving a taste of France, you might want to head to this scenic Ontario destination.
