Planning a getaway in 2025? You may want to consider a trip to this Ontario spot. The destination boasts charming small towns, drool-worthy bakeries and stunning scenery, and was recently named among the top places in the world to visit this year.

You can spend your days exploring waterfront gems, indulging in local cuisine and enjoying unique attractions at this picturesque spot.

The New York Times recently released its list of "52 Places to Go in 2025," showcasing a range of incredible destinations around the globe.

The only Canadian destination to make the roundup was Ontario's Trent-Severn Waterway at number 40, which the Times describes as "a system of rivers, lakes and canals that winds from one end of Ontario to the other, flows amid rustic villages, woodlands and waterfalls, connecting Lake Ontario to Georgian Bay."

According to the Times, the 240-mile Waterway is "experiencing a renaissance" with the recently-opened Canadian Canoe Museum — home to the world's largest collection of paddled watercraft.

The attraction boasts interactive exhibits, unique gift shop items, a lakefront campus and cozy cafe to relax in.

The Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site is currently undergoing a multi-million dollar upgrade focused on repairs and improvements, which, according to the Government of Canada website, will "strengthen the appeal of this world-class waterway as a destination for visitors and tourists."

The Times also highlighted attractions such as the self-drive cruising experiences with boat rental company Le Boat and the family-owned 100 Acre Brewing Co.

You'll also want to check out some of the culinary routes which lead to drool-worthy treats like gooey butter tarts.

There are many enchanting small towns dotted along the Waterway which make for great day trip or weekend destinations.

Bobcaygeon, Fenelon Falls and and Lindsay are all brimming with charm, cute eateries and local shops.

Destinations topping The New York Time's list of destinations to visit this year include Jane Austen's England, the Galápagos Islands, and New York City museums.
