Canadians say they're visiting this charming waterfront town in Ontario instead of the US

It has storybook streets and hidden gems.

Lead Writer, Travel

Ontario is full of gorgeous vacation destinations, and this small town is a standout spot for getaways. With storybook streets, cozy cafés and sparkling waters, it's a magical place to enjoy an escape.

In a post on Narcity Canada's Facebook page, we asked readers where they're headed if they're skipping trips to the U.S., and this quaint Ontario destination was one of the picks.

Collingwood is a dreamy small town nestled along the shores of Nottawasaga Bay, about 2 hours from Toronto.

It's a beautiful spot for a vacation, with its old-world charm, local boutiques, restaurants and picturesque waterfront.

According to Experience Simcoe County, Collingwood's "colourful history shaped by the railways, shipbuilding and agriculture can be seen in its historic downtown that is bustling with energy and creativity and is home to an incredible array of culinary talent and local, farm fresh and artisanal foods and beverages."

You'll want to spend some time in the cozy downtown, which is lined with quaint local shops, cafés, and eateries. You'll find historic architecture and dreamy murals scattered throughout the streets.

You can explore Creative Simcoe Street, an arts hub with artist studios, galleries, and the old-world Tremont House, where you can enjoy cultural events and a café.

You can also catch a performance at Theatre Collingwood and discover the town's history at Craigleith Heritage Depot.

Collingwood is a nature enthusiast's paradise, with over 60 kilometres of trails to explore. The nearby Scenic Caves Nature Adventures boasts a towering suspension footbridge as well as scenic forest hikes.

Another highlight of the area is Blue Mountain Village. The pedestrian village has European charm and an array of things to do. From a thrilling mountain coaster to shops, spas and pools, it's a year-round vacation paradise.

Collingwood also has a thriving food scene; you can find everything from breweries to taquerias.

If you're looking to travel locally this year, Collingwood's waterfront charm and range of attractions make it a dreamy spot for a getaway.
