Travel + Leisure recently revealed a list of the "15 Best Places to Travel in January" featuring destinations in the U.S. and around the globe.
The Catskill Mountains in New York State made the cut and the region is just a road trip away from Ontario. According to Travel + Leisure, "the Catskills offer small towns, history, restaurants, and a variety of places to stay, from rustic, romantic cabins to luxurious resorts."
The destination is about a 5 hour drive from the Ontario border near Kingston, making it a great winter getaway option if you want to explore somewhere new without boarding a plane.
It's known for its natural beauty, including cascading waterfalls, hiking trails and some of New York’s best ski resorts, according to Visit Catskills.
You can enjoy a range of outdoor winter activities, from skiing and snowboarding to snowmobiling and tubing. You can also hike your way to some frozen waterfalls for some magical views.
