Pack your bags! You don't need to hop on a plane and travel to a far-off land for an epic winter getaway. This stunning destination near Ontario is full of snowy magic and was named among the best spots in the world to travel this winter.

With snow-covered villages, cozy cabins and stunning winter scenery, you can enjoy all the wonder of the season at this scenic region without an expensive flight.

Travel + Leisure recently revealed a list of the "15 Best Places to Travel in January" featuring destinations in the U.S. and around the globe.

The Catskill Mountains in New York State made the cut and the region is just a road trip away from Ontario. According to Travel + Leisure, "the Catskills offer small towns, history, restaurants, and a variety of places to stay, from rustic, romantic cabins to luxurious resorts."

The destination is about a 5 hour drive from the Ontario border near Kingston, making it a great winter getaway option if you want to explore somewhere new without boarding a plane.

It's known for its natural beauty, including cascading waterfalls, hiking trails and some of New York’s best ski resorts, according to Visit Catskills.

You can enjoy a range of outdoor winter activities, from skiing and snowboarding to snowmobiling and tubing. You can also hike your way to some frozen waterfalls for some magical views.

Aside from outdoor experiences, you can immerse yourself in the art scene and check out some of the local galleries, theatre productions, museums and attractions such as The Thomas Cole National Historic Site.

There are plenty of cute small towns to explore, including charming Windham and Woodstock.

The area has so many unique and beautiful places to stay. The Roxbury Motel features whimsical themed suites, while Urban Cowboy Lodge offers a blend of rustic charm and luxury.
