CTV News has reported that the announcement of their disbandment was made on Telegram — an encrypted messaging app — on the Proud Boys' official channel. Screenshots of the statement were shared on a Twitter account called PatriotTakes.

"The truth is, we were never terrorists or a white supremacy group," they wrote. "We are electricians, carpenters, financial advisors, mechanics, etc. More than that, we are fathers, brothers, uncles and sons."

Proud Boys Canada was founded by Gavin McInnes in 2016. The group protested political correctness and their perceived difficulty as men in society.
