If you have a Samsung electric stove, you may want to check the model number ASAP.

The tech giant recently issued a recall for various models of Samsung slide-in electric ranges due to a potential fire risk. As of August 28, there were already at least 57 reported incidents in Canada, along with seven reported injuries.

These models are said to be hazardous because the front-mounted control knobs can be turned on accidentally by people or pets, which could potentially start a fire.

The recall notice distributed by Health Canada on Thursday refers to Samsung electric ranges sold in Canada from 2013 to 2024 with the following model numbers. You can locate the model number either inside the oven door in the upper-left corner or inside the storage compartment at the bottom.

In response to the issue, Samsung is offering sets of knob locks or covers designed to fit each of these models. You can contact Samsung Canada to receive a free set.

If you have one of the recalled models, Samsung Canada says you can continue to use it, but advises keeping children and pets away from the control knobs, never placing objects on the range when it's not in use and always ensuring the knobs are turned off before leaving home or going to bed.

If your stove is connected to Wi-Fi, you can enable the "Cooktop On" notification in the Samsung SmartThings app to get alerts on your smartphone anytime a burner is turned on.

Health Canada also urges consumers to report any incidents involving this product (or any others) by filling out the incident report form on its website. It's also reminding consumers that under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act, it's illegal to resell, distribute or give away recalled products.

For additional details or to request a knob kit, you can call Samsung Canada at 1-833-775-0120 or visit the recall page on the Samsung website.
