This romantic Ontario town with European charm and lake views feels like a Disney fairytale

It's a magical spot for a late-summer escape.

Lead Writer, Travel

This beautiful town in Ontario looks like something you'd discover on a European getaway. With flower-filled streets, charming shops and romance in the air, it's the perfect spot for a day trip or weekend getaway with your favourite person.

As the warm weather slowly fades, this enchanting village offers a dreamy, late-summer escape with sparkling lake views and old-world vibes.

Niagara-on-the-Lake is a dreamy destination located on the shores of Lake Ontario, about an hour and a half from Toronto.

The village is known for its whimsical, European vibes. It boasts "Victorian era 19th-century charm," as well as "boutique shops, cast-iron planters bursting with flowers, and horse-drawn carriages transporting riders to another time and place," according to the tourism website.

You'll feel like you've stepped into a scene from a Disney film as you wander the fairytale streets, ducking into quaint little shops and sampling sweet bites from local cafés. The boutiques offer everything from handcrafted hats to year-round Christmas treasures—and, of course, plenty of ice cream.

The town's Shaw Festival is a popular attraction where you can catch a theatre performance, such as The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe.

If you're feeling fancy, you can head to the Drawing Room at the Prince of Wales Hotel, which offers an elegant English tea experience.

Queen's Royal Park, located a short walk from downtown, is a beautiful spot for a stroll and offers shimmering lake views.

Niagara-on-the-Lake is renowned for its wine scene, so you'll want to spend some time visiting the beautiful vineyards dotted throughout the region. The venues offer tastings, food, tours and more, and popular spots to check out include Peller Estates, Inniskillin, and Two Sisters Vineyards.

If you're looking for a romantic escape, Niagara-on-the-Lake is the place to be. The area is home to several charming hotels, inns, and spas, making it an ideal spot to enjoy with your favourite person.

The Pillar and Post Inn & Spa, Prince of Wales Hotel, Queen's Landing, and 124 on Queen Hotel & Spa are just a few of the town's dreamy stays where you can unwind, sip wine, and soak up the old-world charm.

If quaint streets, romantic eateries, and enchanting scenery fit for a Disney film sound like your idea of the perfect getaway, this charming small town is the place to be.
