This stunning Ontario town feels like a Scottish village and is a dream spot to live in Canada

It feels like a whole other world.

Lead Writer, Travel

You don't need to move to the U.K. to experience old-world charm every day. This enchanting small town in Ontario is brimming with European vibes and, according to Canadians, is a dream spot to move to.

On Narcity Canada's Facebook page, we asked readers to share which small town in Canada they'd love to move to, and this beautiful Ontario village with stone buildings and river views was one of the spots mentioned.

Perth is a cozy small town perched along the Tay River, about an hour from Ottawa. With its Scottish heritage and timeless stone architecture, this town feels like a fairytale brought to life — no passport required.

Renowned for its beautifully preserved historic buildings and lively arts scene, Perth takes its name from a town and river in Scotland. Scottish and Irish immigrants first settled in the area in the early 1800s, and their European influence can still be seen in the town's charming architecture today.

The town offers lots to enjoy, and is home to museums, parks, and eateries. Downtown you'll find quaint local boutiques and inviting cafes where you can sip specialty coffees and browse for unique items.

One of the highlights of the village is Stewart Park. The natural area boasts fairytale bridges, lush gardens, and sparkling river views, perfect for a relaxing stroll or picnic.

The town is a short drive from Murphy's Point Provincial Park, where you'll find scenic trails and an early 1900s mica mine.

If you're a foodie, Perth is the place to be. The small town has an incredible food scene, offering everything from "delicious pub eats to mouth-watering fine dining to thirst-quenching brews and spirits," according to the website.

You can enjoy riverside patios and warm cafes serving up baked goods and cozy beverages.

According to the town's website, "Whether you're looking for a slower pace of life in a welcoming community or want to be surrounded by beautiful nature right outside your door, Perth has what you need."

The town hosts a range of community events throughout the year, from spooky Halloween experiences to magical Christmas festivals.

So, what's the cost of moving to this picturesque spot? Zolo's market report states that the average housing price in Perth for August 2025 is $580,200, which is significantly more affordable than in Toronto, where the average cost is $1,039,158.

With its Scottish vibes and quaint streets, it's no surprise Perth is a dream spot to move to for Canadians.
