Feds Urge Canadians To Stay At Home This Spring Break & Avoid All Travel

This includes inside Canada, too! ❌
Managing Editor, Canada

If you’ve got an upcoming trip planned, you may have to cancel it. The federal government is reminding Canadians that spring break travel is a no-go this year, both internationally and within Canada.

In a tweet on March 1, Health Canada acknowledged that spring break "is almost here for many Canadians!"

However, the government department took the opportunity to remind people that all non-essential travel is not recommended right now, especially trips abroad.

Their website urges wannabe-vacationers to "avoid non-essential travel outside Canada until further notice to limit the spread of COVID-19."

It explains that public health measures in other countries may be “less strict than in Canada, putting you at greater risk of infection while abroad.”

Health Canada wants people to avoid non-essential holidays within Canada, too, particularly in areas where COVID-19 continues to spread.

Now that requirements for incoming passengers at both land and air borders have been ramped up, going overseas on vacation right now could be complicated and expensive.

The government’s reminder comes around one year after Canada first started to introduce COVID-19 restrictions.

In mid-March last year, the feds announced updated travel advisories for the first time, related to the pandemic.
