As the pandemic continues, a new chart shows Florida's COVID-19 death forecast if a universal mask mandate isn't implemented.

Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington recently published a tool that shows COVID-19 projections, and the number of deaths from the novel coronavirus is expected to near 20,000 in the next few months.

The institute gave two different scenarios that may play out when it comes to the Sunshine State's death rate.

If the majority of Floridians wear masks in public, the projections ease. However, if people ignore face-covering orders, the number of deaths may skyrocket.

Florida set a record in the number of deaths from COVID-19 in one day, recording 173 on Thursday.
