Eligibility requirements for Pinellas County's rent assistance program have been expanded to help a broader range of residents, small businesses, and non-profit organizations.

Those who have experienced a significant loss of income or lost a job due to COVID-19 can now apply for and receive up to $5,000 to cover rent and overdue bills under the Pinellas CARES program.

The new Pinellas CARES programs will immediately broaden eligibility for individuals and families who need help with overdue rent, mortgage or utility bills.

To qualify, applicants now only need to sign a form stating that their loss of income was caused by COVID-19 directly, as well as provide documents that prove their residency in both the county and the United States.

If you previously applied and were denied assistance or have already received help but still need more, you're eligible to reapply. Applicants can submit applications by texting COVIDCARES to 898211.

$170 million in funding provided to the county by the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act will go toward giving additional resources to those in need and public health efforts fighting the virus, including more supplies, equipment, and support for testing in the community.
