It turns out you don't need a big budget to give your apartment an upgrade — almost all of these Dollarama and Dollar Tree items cost just $1.25.

I went to just a couple of locations around Toronto and my haul came out to $19.25 before tax. I picked up polaroid string lights, a message board, a jewelry holder, a basket, a frame, candles and more.

The clip string lights and lightbox message board from Dollarama were the priciest at $4 each, but they also provide some mood lighting so the few extra bucks go a long way.

This miniature jewelry dish, an eight-pack of tealight candles, the glass candle holder and the scrunchies were all $1.25 from Dollar Tree.

Dollar Tree has many varieties of this woven-looking basket; the medium size is ideal for storing your notebooks and novels, and the coffee mug was also just $1.25.

You could probably find a decorative vase just like this one at Anthropologie for way more than a dollar and some change, and the photo frame from Dollarama was also the same price.
