So go ahead and grab your mug of hot chocolate with plenty of marshmallows, and lace up your skates as this is one winter activity you will want to try.

Within our province, there are several ice paths that you can explore with your friends. Some you can even visit at night when they sparkle with glowing fairy lights.

Richmond Green Skate Trail

Price: Free

Address: 1300 Elgin Mills Rd. E., Richmond Hill, ON 

Why You Need To Go: You can enjoy the 250-metre ice path either in the sunshine or skate under the stars at night. It's right next to the Tom Graham arena so there's plenty of parking. With twinkling lights in the trees along the loop, it's a truly magical place for a skate. 

Woodview Mountaintop Skating

Price: $17+ per person

Address: 201 Scenic Caves Rd., The Blue Mountains, ON

Why You Need To Go: The peaceful 1.1-kilometre loop will take you through a forest of evergreen trees dusted in snow. Stunning views of the Niagara Escarpment make it the ideal spot for a picture-perfect afternoon with friends. 

Rideau Canal

Price: Free

Address: Rideau Canal, Ottawa, ON

Why You Need To Go: You don't need to wait for Winterlude to eat a Beavertail and skate with your friends. At nearly 8 kilometres, this is the world’s largest skating rink. Take in all its magic as you glide through downtown Ottawa. 

Nina’s Way Skating Path

Address: Kivi Park, Greater Sudbury, ON

Why You Need To Go: For an easy winter date, you can head to this 1.3-kilometre path that winds through the serene forest landscape of Kivi Park. There's also snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and "fat biking" (they've got extra-wide tires for the snow) available in the park. At night, the trail is illuminated by LED lights so it's extra romantic. 

RiverOak Skating Trail

Address: 2900 York's Corners Rd., Ottawa, ON

Why You Need To Go: This secret 3-kilometre skating trail is only 30 minutes from Ottawa. If you don't quite have your skate legs yet, there are plenty of shorter loops and rinks. You can even bring along your four-legged friend! 

Countryside Adventures

Why You Need To Go: Not only is there an illuminated 3-kilometre-long skating path but a tubing hill that you can enjoy too. Plus, there's a food truck so you can grab a quick bite and a warm beverage between all the winter fun. 

Arrowhead Skating Trail

Price: Daily vehicle permit: $18 weekdays, $21 weekends

Address: 451 Arrowhead Park Rd., Huntsville, ON

Why You Need To Go: The 1.3-kilometre path will take you through a winter wonderland in a Muskoka forest. Snow-covered evergreen trees are the perfect backdrop to an afternoon of cold-weather adventure with that special someone.
