It looks like not everyone tried to keep their distance this weekend. A group of Torontonians operating under MAD (Mother's Against Distancing) exercised their right to protest by throwing an anti-masker party on Cherry Beach. The dance party was a way to oppose the COVID-19 restrictions.

"Freedom to Dance" was held on Saturday from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. and is one of the many dance protests that have taken place over the past few months.

Footage of the event was shared by one of its speakers, Chris Sky.

The video showed multiple people gathered together on the beach throughout the night.

Narcity reached out to Sky who stated that their dance parties are a form of protest against COVID rules.

"We throw a protest extension after-party at Cherry Beach because a lot of people can't come to the Queen's Park protest. Either their work is a sensitive industry like gov or health care, and they could be fired for being there," Sky told Narcity.

"Dancing in and of itself is a protest! Furthermore, we have speakers at each event between DJ sets that inform people."

"Educate people. Unite people. Make them less afraid and more willing to live life. COVID is overexaggerated to the point of lunacy," he added.

The Ontario government announced on Tuesday that it would be pausing its reopening plan for four weeks due to the recent spike in case numbers.

As it stands right now, gatherings of more than 100 people outdoors are illegal under the city's social-distancing bylaws.

Premier Doug Ford has weighed in on the issue of people continuing to attend large gatherings and parties.

He even went as far as to encourage residents to snitch on their neighbours during a press conference on Wednesday.
