The province continues its struggle against the global pandemic. New COVID-19 cases in Ontario jumped back up again after a new low. However, the report comes with some good news about testing.

Ontario announced that the new cases being reported on June 27 were 160, an increase from the previous day's count of 111.

While that might be slightly disappointing after seeing such a sharp decrease, the province also reported 33,492 tests on June 26.

Ontario's Minister of Health, Christine Elliott, noted on Twitter that this was a new record for tests in a single day in the province.

She added that this means the positivity rate is still at an all-time low, and that Hospitalizations, ICU admissions, and patients on ventialtors are also on a downward trend.

"Locally, 29 of Ontario’s 34 public health units are reporting five or fewer new cases, with 17 of them reporting no new cases at all," Elliott added.

That's promising information to have as more areas move into stage 2 of reopening.

As of June 26, the province is also still investigating 33,759 tests.

Since January 15, Ontario has completed a total of 1,327,806 tests. With national tests at 2,598,243 (according to Dr. Theresa Tam), that means the province accounts for more than half of Canada's total.

Despite 160 new cases being reported, Ontario also saw 178 cases being resolved, marking a further drop in active cases.

Ontarians are finally feeling a little more free, with the ability to sit on patios, get their hair cut, and go to their favourite beach.

However, at least one area has seen a setback. Kingston reported an outbreak that occurred at a nail salon shortly after reopening.

According to data from Worldometers, Canada's cases are still on a steady decline, with 28,560 active cases across the country.
