People Are Abandoning Toronto To Buy Homes In Niagara & It's Not Just Because Of The Wine

A realtor reveals why people are moving to Niagara.

The pandemic has likely caused many people to rethink their future in the GTA, and with plenty of other cheaper, vibrant Ontario regions to choose from, some home buyers are fleeing Toronto.

Chris Knighton, team leader at Knighton Real Estate Advisors, weighed in on the issue this week, and said that Niagara is one of the most popular spots for new home buyers.

Knighton said that some of the top reasons people are choosing to leave the GTA for this spot include cheaper pricing, vibrant culture and a sense of community.

"With the ability to work from home and the expanding public transit from Niagara to Toronto, moving away from the GTA has been a popular choice for homeowners looking to stretch their dollar," Knighton said.

"We are witnessing a trend within young adults and families who recently moved to Niagara, as it offers the space, amenities and schools that growing families struggle to find in urban areas," he added.

According to RE/MAX, the predicted average house price for 2021 in Toronto is $974,015, while the prediction for Niagara is much lower at $597,181.
