Clearing snow off your car during winter is an annoyance all Ontario drivers dread, but avoiding it can be deadly.

Halton Police (HRPS) are warning motorists to remove snow before driving after a team member suffered a close call last week.

Jennifer Hartman, HRPS Media Relations, reported that a slab of ice slammed into her windshield on Boxing Day after falling off of a vehicle.

Hartman was travelling with her kids at the time of the incident, but thankfully no one was injured.

"The kids were rear passengers, and the glass only came inside the driver’s compartment," she tweeted.

Drivers are being reminded to remember the motto "to clear snow before you go."

In Ontario, it's important to always remove snow from the top of your vehicles.

Not doing so can see you face a $130 charge.
