Physical distancing and capacity limits will no longer be required in Ontario university and college classrooms this fall due to a recent shift in COVID-19 legislation.

According to CTV News, Deputy Minister of Colleges and Universities Shelley Tapp sent out a memo to schools in the province on Tuesday. The memo informed staff and students that they will no longer have to enforce physical distancing or restrict indoor classroom capacity to 50% or 1,000 students.

The update does, however, specify that staff and students must continue to wear masks indoors and keep outdoor instructional spaces capped at 75% or 15,000 people.

The memo also instructs schools to have a vaccination policy in place before September 7, 2021.

Narcity reached out to Tapp for further comment but did not hear back by the time this story was published.
